Youth Sailing

Sailing is a family sport. Here's how to get your kids on the water with us.

For parents

Do we have a youth sailing program?

Not right now. We don't have a youth sailing program at either lake, Lake Decatur or Clinton Lake.

But there's a great way to get your kids sailing with us: you learn first, then you take them out.

Programs we highly recommend

If you're serious about a youth sailing program for your kids, visit these two clubs. We highly recommend their programs.

How families sail with us

Learn to sail, then show your kids the ropes

  1. You learn to sail

Start with our free online courses, then get on the water with experienced sailors who are happy to teach.

  2. Check out a club boat

Once you qualify, you can check out club boats, like our fast and thrilling Hobie 14 Turbo. See how on the Cruise page.

  3. Bring the family

Take out friends and family, kids included, and show them the ropes yourself.

Every Saturday

Bring the family to Sea Leg Saturdays

Our club hosts Sea Leg Saturdays every week all season long at CDYC. Bring the family along. More experienced sailors are there to help you every step of the way, from rigging the boat to getting back to the dock.

The one catch

We don't place minors on boats with coaches or instructors. Your kids sail with you, on your boat, or on our boat that you checked out.

Help us grow

Want to start a youth program?

Nothing would make us happier than seeing more kids sailing. What we don't have yet is a volunteer youth sailing coordinator. If you'd like to step into that role, we'll support you. Send us a message below and let's talk.
